As my Hair:Mastered program came to a close, one of my fellow peers was seeking Hairstylists on a LA fashion show. Tina Dizon, the lead Hairstylist, briefed the team at her Beverly Hills Salon, The Private Room. Through the collaboration of the 'Hair Style' there was a synergy forming within the team. The first look was immediately approved by the designers: William Bradley. The models had a very deep, straight back parting with an exaggerated straight dry look using L'Oreal products. I love the pace outside of doing my craft with fashion. The show was a success and the Hair an absolute hit!
Sacred Journeys was filmed in beautiful Sedona, AZ. The film has a heartfelt story that accents the profound serenity Sweet Sedona provides to any soul willing to feel her essence. Working on set was a joy! I enjoyed creating and shaping each scene through Hair & Makeup Artistry. The crew and cast were so professional, extremely talented, passionate and humble allowing for the synergy Sedona is ALL about!! We shot Sacred Journeys in 5 extremely hot days in August. Products needed on set constantly were powder, powder, powder, oil absorbing sheets and my beloved barber detail brush to keep those 'fly aways' in check!!

My intention was to create a 'fresh and feminine look' that would be gracefully achieved everyday by women. The inspiration was dew, flowers and the softness of the season of rebirth, Spring. The delicacy of Spring allures one into newness.
I was fortunate to be apart of Hair & Makeup on this amazing creative collaboration with a strong message.

The song is about overcoming the social pressures that we all face, and the unattainable idea of perfection that we project upon one another. The song speaks about shedding the many masks we wear that cover our authentic selves; our beautiful vulnerability. When we set ourselves free from other people's expectations of us, we begin to come alive!

Adalia Tara has been a singer and musician since her youth. What brought her to a point of true expansion? She embarked on a Sedona event to only be transformed with Indie Arie's story of EXPANSION through her personal TRUTH in the music industry. The truth that is expressed with each intentional breath. Adailia Tara set her sights on incorporating the keyboard outside of the sweet strings of her guitar with her vocals. No more waiting, no more worrying, no more limiting herself with doubtful thoughts. Her truth escapes through her brave heart with each beat. Her truth is shared through her songs that will leave you with chills, tears and an urge to EXPAND.

Love is no question for Eric & Kelly, as they plan there New Year's Eve Scottsdale wedding to become one. They took greater views in the sky by plane. Eric educates students through being a flight instructor, meanwhile Kelly tends to patients' needs as a dedicated nurse. The sweet surrender of their paths joining was captured in Sedona at the Airport Mesa.
We like to see each others eyes so we can get a handle on what they are really thinking and feeling, however revealing ourselves can make us feel very vulnerable. We avoid eye contact when we don't want people to take a closer look at us. There are several reasons for this.
One of the most common reasons is we feel insecure. Eye contact invites more interaction, requiring our engaging attention. This can be intimidating with someone we feel less powerful next to. People with higher-status will tend to make more eye contact, while people who suffer from depression are less likely to make eye contact.
Another common reason is we don't want others to know our true feelings. We might feel our reaction will be unfavorably accepted. Anger, fear, and surprise are the hardest emotions to hide through our eyes. They are also the emotions we want to hide most. People who speak sarcastically often avoid eye contact while doing so, for sarcasm is a defense mechanism used by those who are too insecure to show their aggression or state their opinion directly.
If you are telling a white lie, you may hesitate to look someone in the eye because your eyes may give away the truth.
Emotional stability has also been proven to be perceived higher in those who make eye contact.
All of the above reasons for avoiding eye contact, the common denominator is the fear of rejection. Eye contact can act as a regulator for opening and closing the door to connection. The more eye contact you make, the more you are willing to put yourself out there, to risk rejection, and put your confidence into action. It becomes a catch 22, for the more you make eye contact, the more confidence you are creating.
According to the Science of People, the dynamics of posture goes far beyond what we originally thought. Sitting at the computer, arms folded, hunched over, and closed arms and shoulders will actually lower your confidence hormone, testosterone. On the opposite spectrum, standing in a power pose will raise your confidence hormone, testosterone, especially when held for 3 minutes or longer. With hands on hips, frontal facing, open chest, equal weight on both legs, you can physically change your well being!
Confidence is my most beautiful quality. I expect to be able to create that which I am passionate about, at any moment of any day.
Preparation for your 'Bridal Look' should be a fun experience, for this creative process sets the tone for your most sacred day, and offers one of the most memorable days with your chosen bridal girls. Master stylist and makeup artist, Carrie Kacen offers these tips for a successful bridal prep session:
Your Chosen Look
When choosing your 'Bridal Look' it is essential to have a clear idea of what you envision, with the flexibility to CREATE and integrate a personalized look! Pinterest is highly recommended for shopping the latest trends for your wedding theme. A visual collection of your favored styles makes for a clear communication between you and your artist. Things to consider beyond your theme, are location and weather. Braids are trending with the popular vintage and ranch themes. Fishtails and ladders offer novel ways to individualize your best look. Braids and updo's are great for misty, damp or hot and humid conditions. Dry temperate conditions will accommodate the soft and long styles.
When scheduling I require 2 hours for Hair & Makeup application although it usually does not take as long. It is better to give more time and space for my creative process. The day of Trial Hair/Makeup or Wedding day I require your hair to be DRY and washed/conditioned with NO PRODUCT outside of that the night before is when you need to have it washed/conditioned. This allows to have a clean look without competing with other products and static (not a good photo look). Makeup application is done with a clean face and just lotion. I highly recommend not to get waxing, facials or tanning a few days before. In fact, a facial should be at least a week out from your BIG DAY, ENGAGEMENT SHOOT or FANTASY SHOOT. The reason being, facials are great for tightening the muscles, relaxing and cleansing the facial pores, although breakouts occur as you are releasing toxins in the process.
MOH and MOB
I recommend having your Mother and Maid of Honor completed for prep prior to you, so they can help with your pre-ceremony details, helping you into your gown, and veil application. My timeline allows completion of bridal and bridal party prep 30 minutes prior to your gown dressing. It is nice to have wiggle room as things do come up and you need to eat. I will be the Hydration Police...water is very important for longevity of the day and a refreshed look.
I highly recommend Airbrush Makeup for photographs as it is flawless, natural and light for a long day. There are situations were Traditional Makeup is required due to skin tonalities or textures although Airbrush is the way to go! I recommend Eyelashes to open the eye for your pictures unless you have eye sensitivities, recent eye surgeries and any other concerning factors. I believe in soft beauty although it is required to apply more defining makeup for pictures as they last a lifetime! My application is always starting lighter, softer and smaller as it is easy to add more defining looks.
To learn to select our thoughts just the same way as we select our clothes everyday, is a power we can cultivate. --Elizabeth Gilbert
There is nothing more calming and secure than the realization that our only purpose is to follow our bliss. Freeing ourselves from the past, choosing to embrace our inheritance, our potential, our best day, is our greatest gift to ourselves. Envision your best day.
